Yes, Mormons are Christian

A large number of Christians, including Catholics, seem to be under the impression that Mormons are not Christians. This is a huge misunderstanding, to say the least.

Mormons themselves know that Protestants, Catholics, and other Christian faiths are all part of the Lord's flock. We don't gripe at the other Christians, telling them they aren't Christian. Sure, we might try to point out where certain doctrines follow men's thinking rather than God's, but we know that other Christians who accept Jesus Christ as God and seek to obey him are true followers of Christ.

Mormons know that Jesus Christ is the Mighty One of Jacob, the Lord of Heaven and Earth, the Maker of all things. He redeemed the workmanship of his own hands. Like Boaz, who is a type of Christ, the Lord is our kinsman redeemer. He is God Almighty.

Why is it, then, that other Christians keep on insisting Mormons are not Christian? I think it's because (1) they are misinformed by their pastors and (2) some Mormons are unclear on the basics of the gospel.

I had a friend try to convince me that my beliefs were more like a Christian's than like a Mormon's. She urged me to stop going to the Mormon church and attend a "Christian" one. Well, it doesn't get more Christian than the Mormon church. Faithful Mormons are mega-Christians, so to speak. So while I have no problem going to another Christian church from time to time, that's not where I worship the Lord. I worship in the place where he told me to go: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Yes, Mormons are Christian. Some of them are too stupid to know it, though.

I'm sorry to say that I've been chastised at church for saying that Moses prayed to the Lord for answers and we could do the same — merely because I mentioned the name of the Lord was Jesus Christ. I've also heard some ignorant Mormons say that Heavenly Father is God and Jesus is only his Son, which is a tradition perpetuated by the lazy and the ignorant on those too indolent to learn the gospel for themselves.

This type of ignorance comes from people who don't bother to study their scriptures. Praying to the Lord IS praying to Jesus Christ. Heavenly Father is on the Lord's level, but Jesus Christ is God Almighty who was born as the Son — the Son who was given, the Lord of Hosts himself, who, in his zeal, redeemed his people.

Now, I don't want to discourage anyone from honoring and respecting the Lord's dad. But for Pete's sake, don't confuse the two. The Lord himself is God, our God and our fathers' God. There's no excuse for not understanding that. If you don't understand that Jesus Christ is the Great I AM, you don't know very much.

Yes, Mormons are Christian. We preach of Christ, we sing of Christ, we worship Christ, the God of all creation.

Any Mormon who doesn't know this needs to go back to the scriptures until the light dawns in his muddled head.

Jesus IS the God of the Bible

Mormons are taught that Jesus Christ is Jehovah. Anyone with a basic understanding of the Bible knows this means that Jesus Christ is the God of the Bible — the God of the whole earth. He is God Almighty, a just God and a Savior, and there is none like him.

Still, I find that there are quite a few Mormons who don't understand this. These Mormons typically don't study the scriptures much, but instead go by what they've "heard" or what they were "told."

Worse, some of the lesson manuals are unclear on the subject, emphasizing Heavenly Father instead of the Lord. Whom do we worship, Jesus Christ or his dad? Would someone please take a look at the name of the Mormon Church: The Church of Jesus Christ. Sure, it's his church in the latter days, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still his church.

Just because the Lord has sought to educate us on who his father is and tried to teach us to respect his dad doesn't mean the Lord is no longer God. Give me a break. The Holy Spirit is also an individual on the Lord's level who supports him in all that he does, and we don't go around saying the Holy Spirit is God instead of the Lord, do we?

I would just like to clarify: Jesus IS the God of the Bible. He's also the God of the Book of Mormon and of all true scripture. To say anything else is really ignorant.

Can we pray to Jesus?

Here's a question for you: Can Christians pray to Jesus?

The answer: Of course. The scriptures are replete with examples of righteous individuals praying to the Lord. Guess who the Lord is? You got it. It's Jesus Christ.

For some reason, a large number of Mormons have chosen to ignore the numerous examples in the Bible of people praying to the Lord — people like Moses, Abraham, and Jonah — and decided we are "not allowed" to pray to Jesus Christ. In doing this, Mormons also ignore the fact that Nephi prayed to the Lord, Alma prayed to the Lord, and Mormon and Moroni both prayed to the Lord. Guess who the Lord is? Again, it's Jesus Christ.

I've heard the argument that Jesus taught his disciples to pray to the Father in Heaven, and since the Lord was on the earth at the time, that must mean we're supposed to pray ONLY to his dad. But guess what? Jesus is the Father of Heaven and Earth. Just read the Book of Mormon, the D&C, and the Pearl of Great Price and see how many times Jesus refers to himself as the Father. "Behold, I am the Father," he says. Check out the New Testament if you don't believe me.

No wonder so many Christians are confused as to whether Mormons are Christian. Mormons aren't helping the matter by being so ignorant of the God they worship: Jesus Christ.
